Starcodes week of October 4-10, 2024
The comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas just passed earth heading towards the sun, it swings back again, visible in the night sky after October 12. This comet circles in from the Oort cloud hovering past Pluto on an orbit of roughly 80,000 years. Comets bring in material from beyond our known solar system.
Think of this symbolically, our world is exposed to new particles, new information. New ideas can spring up in the wake of a comet, so can solutions and problems we hadn’t even thought of. Traditionally comets were associated with earthquakes, winds, and death of kings. No one claims comets will cause this, just bring a synchronistic resonance.
We can add this to the exciting ongoing solar flares and a few grand trines which build momentum, both momentum in our work, but also momentum in oncoming storms, wars, and the turning tides of history. Last week a grand trine between Mercury, Uranus, and Pluto in earth signs brought the earth-moving winds, this week a grand trine with Venus, Mars, and Saturn can build compassionate action. Let’s work with this symbolism and ponder where we could use hopeful new approaches, what changes we would like to invoke, where good momentum can be built, and do our best to support a healthy turn.
This weekend begins with some serious, thoughtful aspects that ask us to look at the real issues of our life, and the structure underneath, as Mercury and the Sun quincunx Saturn and square Mars as Venus trines Saturn. We can get uncomfortable, notice problems in the system, and get pointed in our critique, but let’s make sure that we have the right target and don’t project our discomforts on a scapegoat. Look for the root cause and work there. This impulse to deal with tough issues will support recovery efforts where real disasters exist.
This week’s grand trine with Venus in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer, and Saturn in Pisces, all water signs, can stabilize our efforts and let our hearts reach out past our normal distances to create real connections. It offers emotional stability, which is helpful because emotions will run deep and strong, like a flooding river. Compassion and good relationships can stand us in good stead unless we get defensive, possessive, or feel attacked, in which case our response can be fierce.
This deep conduit could funnel compassionate action into disaster recovery but also fierce, steady, self-protective fuel into the Mideast confrontations. Because these two trine Saturn, what happens now lasts, whether it’s a deep curse or heartfelt vow.
Mercury in friendly, fair-minded Libra generally helps us collaborate, but this week also form a square to that Mars in Cancer and a quincunx to Saturn; these aspects clear and precise communication on good day but can become barbed and sharp when our hackles rise.
The weekend begins under a Scorpio Moon which brings serious thoughts and keeps our eyes on things that matter. We can show we care by less words and more action. Early next week the Moon in Sagittarius can help us get ready for a journey, whether we’re traveling, thinking in a new landscape, or need to move. On Wednesday, the Moon enters competent Capricorn. Jupiter retrogrades and could put some expansion, PR project, or hoped-for leap forward temporarily on hold while we go back and handle some necessary work.
Friday, October 4: Overnight worries or concerns could call for logistical juggling this morning and a day of concentration and progress later as Mercury quincunx Saturn. The Moon in Scorpio keeps us serious and easily defensive but encourages us to act from compassion and friendship. It’s a good day to make important design or architectural decisions. We can defend our own; if people get feisty, look for how what they are protecting. Old friends, familiar comforts further tonight as Venus trine Saturn.
Mercury quincunx Saturn 12:46 AM, Moon square Pluto 4:40 AM, Moon enters Scorpio 5:22 AM, Venus trine Saturn 11:03 AM.
Saturday, October 5: Details can be annoying, so can too many words or useless activity. Take a few minutes alone or with old friends and just savor the present moment. Walk on the land and feel the presence of a tree, a mountain on the horizon, or the sky overhead. It can help expand our heart without the details of the human life cluttering for a minute as the Moon conjunct Venus in Scorpio. Then expand that heart into helpful action as the Moon trines Mars this afternoon. Anxiety can make some people annoyingly voluble or busy; if so, step back and only engage where it can be helpful. Breathe deep and enjoy a personal project.
Moon trine Saturn 9:46 AM, Moon conjunct Venus 12:28 PM, Moon trine Mars 4:27 PM.
Sunday, October 6: Cranky or accidental aspect overnight can leave us edgy this morning as Mercury squares Mars and the Scorpio Moon opposes Uranus. Travel and speak with care. Watch impulsive decisions, let them marinate before acting on them, and count to five where needed. Midday brings new competence which can help us make serious decisions as the Sun quincunx Saturn. Feel a breath of fresh air tonight as the Moon enters more spacious Sagittarius.
Mercury square Mars 12:36 AM, Moon opposed Uranus 11:08 AM, son quincunx Saturn 12:28 PM, Moon trine Neptune 1:46 PM, Moon sextile Pluto 4:52 PM, Moon enters Sagittarius 5:34 PM.
Monday, October 7: The farsighted Sagittarius Moon can help us move on, release some recent heaviness, take a short trip, or try on a new metaphysical perspective. Let’s not use this to bypass needed real work but we can use this movement to break inertia and step into a next chapter. Tonight, rather than get cranky or feel old, catch up with logistics and rest as the Moon squares Saturn.
Moon square Saturn 8:50 PM, Moon sextile Sun 11:48 PM.
Tuesday, October 8: Express the heart’s warmth as Venus trines Mars and Saturn. Remember that one of the most loving things we can do is set healthy boundaries and respect another person’s decisions. We’ll value loyalty and dependability, while any slights to our trust will be remembered. Mercury trine Jupiter can also call us to make a liberating decision, walk away from some limiting entanglement and walk towards a farther horizon. This trine supports sending out resumes, following up on contacts, pitching a proposal, or just finding a potential for joy in the future after a tough turning point, auspicious even if there may be a delay in the process.
Venus trine Mars 4:21 AM, Mercury trine Jupiter 6:22 AM, Mercury opposed Chiron 8:36 AM, Moon opposed Jupiter 11:09 AM, Moon sextile Mercury 11:53 AM, Moon square Neptune 11:53 PM.
Wednesday, October 9: An industrious Capricorn Moon can help us make progress where the goal is clear, but it can be hard to agree on future plans as Jupiter retrograde. That Capricorn Moon can bring out a controlling streak as a way of dealing with anxiety; if so, try to neither agree nor disagree with the controlling person but step forward without endangering their plans. Feel the satisfaction of a job well done, another thing checked off the list.
Jupiter turns retrograde 1:04 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 3:38 AM.
Thursday, October 10: The day brings both loving and difficult aspects, honor one another’s efforts to juggle complications and deal with a grand square as the Moon opposes Mars, and both square the Sun and Chiron. Tendencies to be suspicious can trip us up. Before we pull back, let’s ask if withholding will actually get us what we want. Instead, try and stay in there and negotiate for a balance between everyone’s needs as Venus quincunx Jupiter and Chiron, forming a potentially healing yod that calls for loving fairness. Rather than ask for cooperation, notice how efforts can dovetail and work towards a common goal.
Moon sextile Saturn 5:16 AM, Venus quincunx Jupiter 9:43 AM, Venus quincunx Chiron 10:56 AM, Moon square son 12:55 PM, Moon opposed Mars 4:21 PM, Moon sextile Venus 7:57 PM.
