stress_woman

Everyone knows all too well the stress of the holiday season, the running from one family gathering to the next, having to prepare food to bring to each event, going and purchasing gifts at crowded stores and shopping centers, workload increasing because of holiday vacations...and this season, there is the added stressor for many people of not having the finances to do the holiday things they have done in the past, or to pay the increase in heating costs, and the list goes on and on. There … [Read more...]

Creative Stress: An Interview with James O’Dea

odea

James O'Dea has a unique perspective on stress and consciousness and the way forward out of the perceived chaos of the world. The immediate past president of The Institute of Noetic Sciences, O'Dea (pronounced o-DEE) champions what he calls "Creative Stress," and as he writes in his book of the same title, it is about not resisting that which confronts us, but dancing with the energy to create opportunity and possibility as opposed to crisis and suffering. He will speak at the annual … [Read more...]

Inner Well-being

In pursuit of human well-being, much has been done on this planet. In the last hundred years with the use of science and technology, we have done so much to create human well-being. As a result, definitely much comfort and convenience have come our way. But at the same time we cannot claim we are the most joyful generation on the planet. We cannot claim we are the most peaceful generation on the planet nor can we claim we are the most loving generation on the planet. Never before could another … [Read more...]

Reducing Stress

"Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness" - Richard CarlsonThere are not many things that remain constant in this life. Change, it seems, is the only certainty. The Western world is undergoing enormous change - economically, socially and politically - and along with this change comes anxiety and a reluctance to accept "the inevitable." Why? Because we have been accustomed to enjoying a particular lifestyle and the "freedom" that … [Read more...]

Live Stress-free

As the "father" of the concept of stress, Hans Selye emphasized physical, chemical and emotional reactions to stress. In fact all illness, and ultimately death, is the result of total stress. For more than 50 years, the excess stress of smoking was reported as the number one preventable cause of premature death. Obesity has now passed smoking as the number one measurable cause of death. Two-thirds of Americans are now overweight (Body Mass Index above 24), with one-third officially … [Read more...]

Stress: What do You Think?

There are many kinds of stress. Physical stress of an illness, injury or being exposed to toxins or allergens. Emotional stress stemming from relationships with family and friends. Work stress like trying to meet deadlines or please a difficult client. Stress from traffic, loud atmospheres, over booking our schedules...it seems to be everywhere. Certain chemicals and hormones are released in our bodies when they are stressed, regardless of what kind of stress we are under. They raise our blood … [Read more...]

Reducing Stress

One of the best ways that I have found to reduce stress is to turn the telephone off. Keep radios and TVs off and just enjoy complete quiet for an hour or more each day. After a while, it becomes your oasis of ritual and you become resentful when even a moment of quiet has been sacrificed. It soothes the mind and the body and the soul. You start to feel all the stress fall away from you.I like to light candles and incense to make the room feel warmer and more relaxing. I like to go into the … [Read more...]

Love and the Art of Stress

It's funny to be writing about reducing stress in the throes of the holidays, especially this year. I'm currently unemployed and holiday trees are exuding more light than the job market. The economy is causing more than its share of stress for millions watching their retirement savings dwindle. Stress has this peculiar way of spreading its energy like wildfire, until everyone feels disconnected from the loving arms of Source. Our relationships, finances, careers, governments and nations are … [Read more...]

Simple Steps to Your Peace

Understand that everyone experiences stress to some degree. For each of us, it is different. What triggers my stress certainly doesn't trigger my child in the same way. The stresses of my parents are not the same as mine. The best part is that we have this beautiful built-in warning system when there is too much stress in our body. That mechanism is our emotional system. If it is out of balance, our emotional system acts like a circuit breaker. When something happens, we experience emotion. This … [Read more...]

Guided Imagery for Stress Relief

Modern science has proven there is a powerful mind-body connection. Studies have found 60 to 90 percent of all illness is stress related. Imagery is a vehicle to communicate and listen to what the body needs to heal. Imagery is like a dream, a story being told, where our imagination takes us exactly where we need to go for the opportunity to release stress and heal the body. Imagery offers the body a chance to be in a relaxed state. When the body is at rest in a guided imagery, doctors have … [Read more...]

Stepping Into Creation…and Away from Fear

I've been thinking about fear. It's everywhere. I turn on the TV news and hear about lack of money, the financial systems coming apart, and people behaving badly. My junk mail has an ominous tone in it, assuming that someone must get elected, or must not get elected, in order to save our schools or lifestyle or community. When I create or make a choice out of fear, I am giving myself no love. By choosing or moving while I'm in fear, I will withdraw and contract. That choice will be a choice … [Read more...]

More News About Stress

According to the American Medical Association, stress is the cause of 80 to 85 percent of all human illness and disease. Living under stressful conditions for long periods of time (chronic stress) can have a profoundly negative impact on our body. When we experience a threat, whether it's physical or psychological, our bodies go into overdrive. There's increasing evidence that stress is a contributing factor to illnesses. Our lives are filled with many events that can trigger the stress … [Read more...]

Stress Reduction for Healers: Building a Sustainable Business

When my basement was flooding last spring, I realized that stress management was as much about purchasing a sump pump as it was about meditation. Stress occurs for a reason. It shows us where our habits, attitudes and infrastructure are not working. Spiritual practices help us get grounded and centered so we can create change from a strong inner space. Sometimes the change that's needed is internal, such as finding acceptance or letting go, and sometimes it is external - challenging us to … [Read more...]

Meditate while You Move to Reduce Stress

Stress often is categorized as either positive or negative. Positive stress allows us to evolve and change naturally, whereas negative stress removes or depletes our ability to effectively cope with life. One natural remedy for reducing the negative stress is the new Meditative Movements™ exercise program. Research has shown that exercise is effective in managing stress. Affirmations are positive, simple statements a person repeats out loud or to one's self; repeating affirmation mantras … [Read more...]
