Gratitude in a Broken Heart

cat_calico

The only reoccurring childhood nightmare I ever had was about cats taking over the world. I would wake up, get out of bed and act out a new ending where I befriended the enemy cats by feeding them milk and saved the day. For most of my life, being around cats caused me to sneeze, itch and made my eyes water. I really liked Dale. He had two cats, so I decided it was time to make my peace with them. Binx was easy. He was shy and hid whenever I arrived at Dale's house. Buzz was another entity … [Read more...]

Canine lover finds joy with a dog-like cat

Antonson

Most of my life I didn't like cats. Growing up, we were a dog family. Cats were scary, unpredictable and made us sneeze and itch. Dogs, on the other hand, were loyal, dependable and made us laugh. We could count on them to enthusiastically greet us when we arrived home. They followed us around from room to room like planets orbiting the sun. They could joyfully play games for hours as long as we played, too. Their devotion and love was apparent. I had no need for cats. In my match.com … [Read more...]

Dreams: A Tool for Health, Love and Overcoming Fear

writing2

Dreams are an amazing tool, an often untapped resource for guidance in daily life. I've been fascinated by dreams since childhood when I had reoccurring fear-filled dreams about cats. In college, I learned of traditional cultures where parents asked the children about their dreams every morning at breakfast. My curiosity about dreams continued until I found the spiritual teachings of Eckankar. One of the aspects that most attracted me was the emphasis on using dreams for spiritual unfoldment … [Read more...]

Jin Shin Jyutsu for Self-Care and Loved Ones

One morning my sweet 10-year-old dog, Jack, suddenly began yelping in pain and lifting his leg. I wasn't aware of any incident to cause it. There was no sign of any injury. I was very concerned and scheduled an appointment with a health practitioner for that afternoon. In the meantime, I wanted to do something to help him. I thought of the Japanese healing art I had recently been introduced to called Jin Shin Jyutsu. It involves placing your fingertips on designated "safety energy locks." … [Read more...]

Raw foods to benefit our animals and ourselves

Our cat, Sam, is a great testimonial to the healing power of raw foods. When we first saw Sam at the animal shelter, he was so straggly and icky looking that my husband, Dale, wasn't interested in adopting him. We went home empty handed to think it over. I reminded Dale that Sam had the qualities we wanted in a cat - a male who was affectionate and people-oriented. Sam was a stray who'd been rescued just in time before the winter temps dropped dangerously low. I assured Dale that a couple … [Read more...]

More Love with Feng Shui

antonson

I had finally decided that if I was truly serious about finding my beloved, it was time to be courageous enough to admit that to other people. I was at a Jin Shin Jyutsu training in Boulder, CO. It was a perfect place to practice my new intention to be honest and open. In conversation with one of my classmates, I told her that I was looking for love. She promptly began talking to me about Feng Shui and its impact on attracting love. I wasn't familiar with Feng Shui, but the idea that physical … [Read more...]

Creating and sustaining a love-filled relationship

Most of us long for a healthy, happy love relationship. After all, love is the most precious gift any of us can give or receive. Yet, half of marriages end in divorce and we all know couples who stay married but aren't truly happy. The challenge to create and sustain a healthy, loving relationship is immense. My journey to true love took 45 years. Through personal experience and the experience of hundreds of clients, I've learned a lot about the barriers to love that we unknowingly … [Read more...]

Spiritual Awakenings in Everyday Life

emotion

Some people have miraculous experiences where illusion is suddenly and dramatically stripped away; they see the light of truth and are forever changed. Like Saul in the Bible who is brought to his knees by the Light and Sound of God, becomes Paul, and finishes out his life in service to others. My spiritual awakenings have always been, and continue to be, more ordinary and subtle. They happen in daily life when truth emerges in a new way I hadn't considered before. When I'm shown a new way to … [Read more...]

It Makes Sense to Me Now

featured_1209

At age 6, I became a spiritual seeker. One of my dearest friends lived down the street from me. Michelle was Jewish. I was the daughter of a Baptist minister. My religion taught me that the only way to eternal life was through believing in Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. It made no sense to me that my sweet, dear friend Michelle was doomed to hell. My father and minister had no answers that satisfied me. I continued in the church of my family until I went away to college. There I was … [Read more...]
