I have a tendency to over-schedule and over commit. It comes, I think, from a mistaken belief that given enough time, I really can do everything and be all things for all people. Because I can't, of course, I end up tired and frazzled and disappointed in myself when I have to cancel things.A few months ago I realized that I simply had to drop some things from my life to make space for other things to happen. One thing I had to let go of was a monthly group that I hosted at my studio. There was a … [Read more...]
2009 with The Light Collective
Editor's note: The following excerpts are from a channeling of The Light Collective with Kathryn Harwig that took place November 8, 2008, at Edge Life Expo. We are pleased that so many of you heard the call and have taken the time to come and learn and listen about not only 2009, but also about your society changing. What we wish to say to you is that you have entered into this year, next year will be even more important. It is a time where you are going through a cultural change, a societal … [Read more...]
Time to Imagine
I am writing this on the eve of the 2008 elections, knowing that by the time this article is read, the elections will be just a memory. I know who I hope will win. I even know who I predict will win. Whether or not I am right, though, life, by the time you read this, will have changed for our country. The thing about being a psychic is that people expect me to know more than I really do. Prediction is uncertain at best, especially when it involves global events. Still, it is the end of the year … [Read more...]
All Who Wander are Not Lost
A number of years ago I bought a T-shirt embroidered with the words "All who wander are not lost." I am not all that fond of the shirt, but I have kept it for the motto. It seems to sum up my life in six words.I am rather known for my wanderings (or wandelings as I tend to call them) - and yes, sometimes I do wonder when I wander. I have found a good "wandle" will heal most of what bothers me. It takes me out of my busy-ness and puts me smack dab in the moment.I think … [Read more...]
Fear is a Mind Killer
Maybe all children are fearful. I don't know. I just remember, as a little girl, being terrified a lot. Mostly, I was afraid of three things: nuclear war, Nazis and the Rapture. I was a child of the 50s with a father who returned from World War II with a bullet in his knee and night terrors. In my nightmares I hid from Nazis who searched for little girls in closets. Then came the cold war. I was taught how to hide under my desk in school in case a nuclear bomb was launched. Even in … [Read more...]
The Light Collective
I chuckle, sometimes, when I think that I channel. Until the day the Light Collective introduced themselves to me, I was one of those people who did not believe channeling was real. I thought channels were tuning into a form of intuition, but I didn't really believe that a separate entity (or entities) was speaking through them. Then, one day about 10 years ago, I was in deep meditation with a friend. Suddenly I started to talk. My friend carried on a conversation with what I now know was the … [Read more...]
The Why is less important than the How
One of the most important skills all intuitives should master is that of asking a good question. Many people are incredibly sloppy when they ask intuitive questions. When I do readings for people, I am always asked questions such as Will I ever be happy? or even Am I going to die? The answers to these questions, of course, is yes even the most depressed among us experiences moments of happiness and, of course, we will all ultimately die. But, those … [Read more...]
Honoring the Violet Generation: the Unexpected Psychics
During the twenty years or more that I have been a professional psychic and medium, I have had hundreds of men and women visit me, wishing to talk about their newly emerging psychic ability. Many times they are rather embarrassed or upset by this phenomenon. Often, they first notice it in the last third of their lives. The circumstances that prompt them to come to me are very different from person to person, but the effect is the same. Something has happened, a death perhaps, or a business … [Read more...]
Growing Our Strengths
I recently read a quote that has stuck with me. In the wonderful little book, I Will Not Die an Unlived Life, Dawna Markova states that she has decided to "grow her strengths, rather than trying to fix her weaknesses." This phrase reminds me a little of what I teach about intuition. In intuitive practice it is very important not to compare ourselves with others. The key to becoming a master intuitive is to find out how intuition speaks to you, not to focus on the way it works for other … [Read more...]
Living the Mysteries
I have just returned from Greece, where we had a marvelous time touring the country and visiting many sacred and ancient sites. We were blessed to have a knowledgeable guide (Lily) who also was sympathetic to our interests. Once she learned that our group had metaphysical and spiritual leanings, she emphasized the ancient stories and rites, as well as discussing history and architecture. At one point she shared with me how freeing it was to be able to talk about such things openly to a group. … [Read more...]
Rules for the Journey
In a few days I will be leaving on a trip to Greece. I am leading a mystical journey with a group of 27 spiritual seekers. It promises to be exciting and magical, and I am both excited and a little nervous. I am always slightly unsettled before I leave on a trip, especially when I am acting as a leader. After all, there are a hundred details to take care of and, on a journey such as this one, there will always be magical and unpredictable events for which I can't prepare. There, in a nut … [Read more...]
Intuitive Discipline
Discipline isn't a word often associated with intuitive work. Generally, I think, people think of psychics as being spontaneous, perhaps a little airy/faery, but certainly not regimented or disciplined.Still, discipline is critical to intuitive work. One of my pet peeves, as anyone who has taken a class from me can attest, is the notion that psychic knowing only comes spontaneously and without intent. It can, of course. We have all had instances when we "just knew" something would … [Read more...]
Courage is an Acquired Taste
"Courage is an acquired taste, like caviar." - Erica JongThe first time someone told me I was courageous, I laughed out loud. I was perhaps the most timid child ever born on this planet. Partly due to childhood illness and partly because of my peculiar psychic abilities, I didn't act like other children. I didn't play sports, never learned to ride a bike, and was afraid to go into the water. I stayed to myself, reading, pondering, and talking to spirits. And, I was afraid...a lot.I … [Read more...]
Culture Shock: The Impartial Observer
I am writing this two days before I leave on a three-week trip through Central America. We will spend the holidays in Guatemala and plan to spend Christmas Eve and day at the Mayan ruins in Tikal. This is my third Christmas spent outside the U.S. Four years ago I was in Costa Rica during the holidays and many years ago I celebrated them in Thailand. Next year I hope to be in India at this time of the year.It is an interesting thing being so far away from home during holiday times. It feels a … [Read more...]
The Power to Be
One of my favorite songs is KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See." KT sings of a woman who "holds you captivated in her power." She goes on to describe this woman (whose face has aged to be a "map of the world") as having "the power to be, the power to give, the power to see." These beautiful lyrics perfectly describe for me what power is...and what I want it to look like in my own life. The issue of power has come up a lot for me lately. People have asked about … [Read more...]
