A writer recently contacted me about a book he was putting together of truthful stories about the challenges of the spiritual path. He said that he was tired of all the teachings that suggested the journey was easy or pretended that the teacher had achieved some spiritual status and was special. I agreed to see him immediately. This business of false or exaggerated claims is not a new problem. The great world religions assert or imply that their way is the best way. That has been, and … [Read more...]
Travels to Ithaca, My Soul’s Home
I still recall descending on a small plane into Ithaca, NY, in 2001. It was a business trip that brought me to this destination, where I would meet with a number of law faculty at Cornell University, some long-time authors of the academic publishing company I worked for at the time. I hadn't wanted to make this trip, which required troublesome connecting flights. In fact, I came only at the urging of my manager who thought I might enjoy the area. It turns out, she was right. As my plane … [Read more...]
Predictions for the Years Ahead!
Most of what I observe is that human beings only know what is and has been, according to what each is willing to believe and has been taught - even if each does not fully understand it. What many individuals are sharing is what each believes can and will be happening leading up to and after December 21, 2012. Is it their truth, or another's truth? Where do these ideas come from? How connected to the universe is each person? Are there different levels and degrees of intuitive connectedness? Is … [Read more...]

A New Frame of Reference for Shifting From Fear To Love
We've all been there: stuck in fear or anxiety and wishing there was a quicker, easier way of getting free - of experiencing what A Course in Miracles describes as "a shift away from fear to love." So how do we make the shift more easily so we don't remain hostage to our ego and to the suffering it brings us? By first being willing to conceive of the possibility that our true Identity can literally come into the fear we're feeling and transform it for us. Consider this new frame of reference: … [Read more...]
Creation Castle: Chickens and Abe Lincoln Welcome!
I've always been a believer in visualization. Most days, I make the time to sit in silence and envision what I'd like to create for myself. The list usually goes something like: a successful writing career, perfect health, hairball-free cats, and kids that adore household chores. I absolutely see steps in a positive direction for the first two, and if you have any special manifestation techniques on the last two, I'd pay good money to hear them. I've started affirming the good as it appears … [Read more...]
Owning Yourself: For Better or For Worse
My ankle has been doing a bang-up job of predicting the weather lately. I broke it when I was about 22 and it was set wrong, and I can tell you that it's kept me updated on all the fronts that have come through recently. Other repercussions of this injury have gradually manifested over the years until it has become my "bad ankle." Get to a certain age and everyone has one: the trick knee, the bad back, the screwed up shoulder. You can't help but notice the language we use to describe these … [Read more...]
Knowledge is Power
"Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe." - H. G. Wells My family and I try to be good and socially responsible consumers, but sometimes it gets really tough to make good and aware decisions. Every day, it seems, I learn about another corporation involved with child labor lawsuits, or a company that continues animal testing, or one that is an environmental disaster waiting to happen. I was talking with a friend the other day. He said that his wife … [Read more...]
It’s Not What You Expect
I recently heard from the mother of a newborn that her baby was considered underweight because her pediatrician's statistic tables didn't match her child's reality. I joked that her child had her first opportunity to practice not living up to the expectations of others. The mother returned the humor, asking where was I when she was growing up and I, at twice her age, responded that I'd only resolved the issue for myself a week ago and was now free to talk about it. In truth, I'm not sure I … [Read more...]
