What was the most sacred moment you have had in your life? Susan Just: Like many people, in my early twenties I was full of conflicting emotions like shyness, confidence, inadequacy and anger. At times I would just shred myself with self-loathing, disgust and fear. During a party, I was in the living room by myself and I got into one of these cycles. And then suddenly, I had this vision: It was Mother Mary and she was talking to me. Now, I'm not Catholic, but I knew it was her spirit and that … [Read more...]
An Interview with Thomas Morton
What was the most sacred moment you have had in your life? Thomas Morton: Wow, what a question! To be very clear in answering this, I would like to say first that every moment is sacred when you live in the moment (or now). Of course if one is out of "the now," then one loses touch with "being" with "the sacredness" of that moment. If you are asking about my personal history (which I feel you are), I would have to say it was when I was shown that God was within … [Read more...]
An Interview with Deborah Lynn11
What was the most sacred moment you have had in your life? Deborah Lynn 11: Up to the time when I first moved to Minnesota in September 2000 from Southern California, I had experienced deja vu only once in my entire life, back in 1997. I dont say that anymore. I had always longed to visit the St. Croix Islands, as it was something I felt really strong about, deep inside my soul. Much to my surprise, I was really beside myself when I discovered there was a St. Croix River right here in … [Read more...]
An Interview with George Catlin, Ph.D.
Why are you optimistic about the future of humanity in this time of uncertainty and fear? Dr. George Catlin: God exists. Spirit will triumph in the end. And we're actually just coming into a great stretch in human history. Ninety-five percent of the "fear and uncertainty" is about the U.S. economy and our place in a changing world. Fortunately both will probably (continue to) take a tumble in the near future, and that will have the ultimate effect of helping us redirect our attention … [Read more...]
An Interview with John Laughlin, DDS
What was the most sacred moment you have had in your life? Dr. John Laughlin: A very sacred moment in my life was being present at the birth of our children, and being able to support my wife Judy during and after the birth process. Also, the first time I clearly felt the movement of the cranial sacral mechanism was a very powerful moment for me. The word sacrum is derived from the word sacred. I feel a very direct connection to the person when I am in tune with the cranial system. That … [Read more...]
This Too Shall Pass
A lot of emphasis is placed on positive thinking. From works like The Secret and What the Bleep Do We Know!? to "Oprah," we hear time and time again how important it is to maintain positive loving thoughts about our lives and others. All the books we read, videos we watch and classes we attend are not wrong. Keeping your heart open and your thoughts loving and positive is probably the most important thing a person can do to improve our lives and keep them flowing smoothly. But what do … [Read more...]
Opportunities Abound for Souls to Grow
"These times there a-changin'." One of our fellow visionaries, Bob Dylan, wrote this song a few years ago. As most of you know, he grew up in the heart of the Iron Range, a hard, working-class area, where the common man had the privilege to work hard and prosper. Many thought that these types - Dylan, Will Rogers, even Garrison Keillor today - would create chaos with their liberal views. But liberalism, per se, is not the cause of disorder. One only has to look at the chaos that has … [Read more...]
Recycling does not include the Tops of Cans, Bottles
Dear EarthTalk: Everyone knows we should recycle metal, glass and plastic cans and bottles, but what about all the lids, tops and caps? I see people recycling plastic bottles, for example, with their caps on, but I've always been told to thrown them out. Is that wrong? - Stefanie Gandolfi, Oakland, Calif. Many municipal recycling programs throughout the U.S. still do not accept plastic lids, tops and caps even though they take the containers that accompany them. The reason is that they are not … [Read more...]
The Miracle Club
There is a huge part of me that is really, truly, uneasy with writing about the subject of miracles. It's not that I'm uncomfortable discussing religion, prayers, or the subject of God. But for a child raised in a quietly Presbyterian household, miracles were the stuff of the Easter sermon or old-time religious revival tents with a laying on of hands. In my limited childhood experience, the people who threw that term around liberally were the 1-900-Sunday morning cable ministers, many of … [Read more...]
An Interview with Lynn Young (Master Soulaire)
What was the most sacred moment you have had in your life? Lynn Young (Master Soulaire): The most sacred moment in my life was when I walked into a room of 30 people, students I had been teaching, and all I could feel was unconditional love from everyone in the room. I was not expecting it. I had just been rejected by my entire family, including my children, and felt very alone. I had been trying to keep my life private, but divorce is very public and I was going through a tough time. I had … [Read more...]
