Constructive Use of Your Anger

Everyone feels angry sometimes. It is a part of our evolutionary history to become angry. When we humans lived in the jungle, we needed to become angry when we felt trapped or hurt. It provided us with a lot of energy to use in order to survive. Today, the realistic necessity of feeling angry is greatly diminished. Not that we feel anger, but rather what we do with our anger is what's important. How we manage that powerful emotion is critical to our health and well-being. If we "keep it … [Read more...]

Acts of God

If you read the small print on contracts, no one is liable for "Acts of God." "Acts of God" are disasters beyond human control, like storms, floods, lightning, and (some would argue) protracted visits from uninvited relatives. I find it fascinating that in such contracts God takes the rap for everything that goes wrong, and rarely receives credit for the good things that go right. As I see it, God has done a lot of pretty cool stuff far more significant than knocking trees … [Read more...]

Green Computers and Vital Recycling

My old computer finally bit the dust and I am in the market for a replacement. Are there any particularly "green" computers for sale these days? - Brian Smith, Nashua, NH Thanks in part to pressure from non-profits like Greenpeace International, which has published quarterly versions of its landmark "Guide to Greener Electronics" since 2006, computer makers now understand that consumers care about the environmental footprints of the products they use.The latest version of … [Read more...]

Conscious Kids & X Men

Consider, in this moment, that children who seem to lack attention, or focus, or the ability to communicate or act compulsively actually are speaking volumes about adults who are quick to label and judge but are unable to understand the consciousness of these children. That is the basis for a unique two-day workshop, "Conscious Kids - X Men," that will be presented June 3-4 in the Twin Cities by internationally known seminar leader Gary Douglas. The event is intended for parents and … [Read more...]

Pathways to your Heart and Mind

I suspect that by now most people know directly or are aware of the tangible physical health benefits of yoga, karate and other forms of movement arts. However, I believe that many people, including some practitioners, are largely unaware of how subtly and powerfully they can affect us at the fundamental levels of our Being. Through time and with careful attention, these forms become naturally flowing channels of movement and energy uncluttered by unconscious patterns. They come to have … [Read more...]

My Yoga Experience

Last fall I went to a Bikram Yoga retreat for a long weekend. On Saturday night after dinner, people got up to describe how yoga changed their lives. I was stunned. People went from suicidal to happy, energetic, full-of-life people. Yoga had carried some through cancer, accidents, and other life traumas. I just didn't have anything that would begin to compare. However, slowly and surely the benefits of my four-year yoga practice begin to make themselves known to me. I just wasn't aware of them … [Read more...]

Celebrate Your Life…A Story of a Beginning

In 1995, two women unknowingly started a company that would eventually have international recognition. My mother and I had no idea what the Universe had in store for us. I was an actress living in L.A. and she was a therapist living in Scottsdale. Through a series of synchronistic events, I ended up in Scottsdale and the two of us "accidentally" began creating lectures and workshops for authors whose messages were all about creating a more joyful, peaceful and loving world. … [Read more...]

Rules for the Journey

In a few days I will be leaving on a trip to Greece. I am leading a mystical journey with a group of 27 spiritual seekers. It promises to be exciting and magical, and I am both excited and a little nervous. I am always slightly unsettled before I leave on a trip, especially when I am acting as a leader. After all, there are a hundred details to take care of and, on a journey such as this one, there will always be magical and unpredictable events for which I can't prepare. There, in a nut … [Read more...]

What’s replacing the Trans Fats in your Food? Interesterified Fats

Many food producers are phasing out partially hydrogenated oils, which contain harmful trans fats. While many will inform you of the removal of trans fat from their product, they don't give you much information about the fats they are using to replace the trans fat. For many pre-packaged foods, some companies are turning to fats in the class called "interesterified" fats. Interesterification is one of three main fat modification techniques. The other two techniques are fractionation … [Read more...]
