Welcome to the start of the fourth year of the Movie Mystic column! My criteria for inclusion in this special yearly double column is that the films must fit into the definition of Spiritual Cinema that we use for choosing films to distribute through the Spiritual Cinema Circle: films that ask who we are and why we are here - and films that help us feel better about human beings. It's that last phrase - feeling better about being human - that made 2005 one of the toughest years ever for me to … [Read more...]

Instilling Values in our Everyday Life and Work
How we incorporate our values into our personal and business life can be difficult. As a society, we have gotten away from integrity, ethics and honesty in our dog-eat-dog world of daily business competition or in life's competition. We see each other as competition, as an adverse problem, as an obstacle, but we don't see that we have lost the very foundation that keeps our integrity, honesty, values and ethics high. That very thing is spirituality.True Spirituality comes from the heart. It … [Read more...]
To the Editor
Having just passed through the holidays into a new year, it's time to think with our hearts as well as our heads. When we look at our world, how do we feel? What do we understand? We must speak out against wrong doing. We are creating the future now. This poem by Hanan Mikha'il 'Ashrawi, almost four years old, brings it home. This world is our home, the only one we have. These are our children. And the young men and women, the soldiers, the combatants on all sides, are our children, as … [Read more...]
God Helps Those Who Help Themselves
During my medical training years ago, I was assigned to the University Health Center in Pasadena, near Los Angeles, for my internship. While working at the clinic, I rented a room in a mansion. The home was owned by a couple in their sixties. While I finalized the rental agreement with the lady of the house, the husband was not there. When I asked her about him, she said he was in the hospital. She said nothing further. I didn't ask any follow-up questions, because I could see from the painful … [Read more...]
True Healing vs. the Quick Fix
Many of my chiropractic patients have shown me the need to address the difference between receiving a quick fix to make the symptoms go away and true healing to address the reason for the pain and to make changes accordingly. True healing involves going through different layers of being to integrate a healing of all of the aspects of self: spiritual, mental, emotional, as well as physical. What I am trying to do in my practice is address the symptoms, cause, effect, … [Read more...]
Melding Our Value Into Oneness!
While pondering the topic of socially responsible business, I begin to question our ability to unify and meld our energy and values in Earth's workplace. There are so many different values, from so many different sources, through many differently programmed teachings, within many different people, all seeing the universe from their own individualistic perspective! How is this possible? Is it possible to align our values when we are coming from so many different perspectives of what is and what … [Read more...]
Why Peacocks Honk
One morning a pair of peacocks showed up at our back door. We have no idea where they came from. We just figure they were roaming the neighborhood and God gave them our address. They were a mated pair, a peacock and peahen, so we named them Alan and Dee.The two birds were never more than a few feet apart. They were majestic to behold, curious, and funny, so we decided to let them adopt us. One afternoon I stepped out onto the patio and startled peahen Dee. Flustered, she flew to the other side … [Read more...]
